PSU looking into smoking ban in the South Park Blocks

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland State University is considering a ban on smoking through the center of its campus.

A university spokesman said administrators have started discussions with Portland Parks & Recreation about at least limiting tobacco use in the South Park Blocks.

The spokesman said those talks have only just begun. As of now, there is no set plan, timeline or specifics for implementing such a proposal.

PSU already has a smoking policy that prohibits the use of cigars, cigarettes, hookahs and other tobacco products from all university buildings, balconies and parking garages.

Smoking is also not allowed within 25 feet of entrances to campus buildings.

The South Park Blocks are a public space that run through the heart of PSU.
