PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Hundreds of political activists in Oregon and Washington are expected to speak out against what they are calling political repression. They are planning speeches and demonstrations ahead of a grand jury hearing in Seattle on Aug. 2.
The political outcry started when FBI agents raided three homes in NE Portland on July 25 for what they called an ongoing violent crime case. Agents seized evidence, but made no arrests. The FBI is remaining tight-lipped on the nature of the investigation.
Several activist groups began speaking out immediately following the raids, many claiming the people living in the homes were targeted for their anarchist beliefs. The groups say the evidence seized included computers, black clothing and anarchist literature.
Two people subpoenaed to the federal grand jury in Seattle are expected to issue a statement in North Portland's Peninsula Park. The activist groups are also planning a rally in solidarity on the steps of Seattle's federal courthouse the morning of the grand jury hearing.
