PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A local couple married at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center on Tuesday, one day before the bride faced a life-threatening surgery.
Jamie Amos and Jon Tafoya met when they were 17 in New Mexico and dated for several years before Tafoya moved to Oregon to be with his family. They reunited after Amos moved to Oregon to support Tafoya as he faced health issues.
But last week, Amos became the one who needed support when she was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor.
On Monday, Amos told a nurse she was hoping to get married before her surgery later in the week. She said she wanted to have the ceremony at the hospital because they had taken such good care of her.
David's Bridal provided the dress and nurses helped provide a veil, jewelry and the photo shoot. About 50 guests attended the wedding after being invited by text message and Facebook.
Amos said she is more prepared for her surgery with her husband by her side.
"(There's) so much gratitude and love from people we don't even know, just so much support from human kind, it's overwhelming and touching," she said. "It's a real fairytale."
After her surgery Wednesday, Amos will be in the hospital for several weeks and go through physical therapy.
