Police: Man with gun threatened to kill people downtown

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police said they caught a man waiving a gun and threatening to kill people in downtown Portland early Wednesday morning.

Christopher Harold, 52, was arrested on a long list of charges, including menacing, possession of a loaded firearm in the city,pointing a firearm at another person, attempted assault and DUII.

The call came in just before 3 a.m. that a man was in a parked car at Northwest Third and Couch Street with a silver handgun.

Witnesses said he pointed the gun at people in the area, who ran inside the Dixie Tavern to get away.

When officers arrived, they said the car was empty.

Officers said they heard a man yelling nearby, saying something about shooting and killing people.

As they approached him, officers said Harold began walking toward them with his hand in his pocket.

Police told him to take his hand out of his pocket and asked if he was armed. He indicated that he was.

Officers ordered him to get on the ground and he complied. No force was used.

Police said Harold was carrying a loaded handgun.
