Portland Police Bureau detectives have identified a gun theft suspect, thanks to a FOX 12 viewer.

Police said the viewer identified the suspect as Erick Johnson, 47, after watching a story including surveillance video and photos of the crime.

Officers began their investigation on July 24 after receiving a report of two guns stolen from Movie Madness on Southeast Belmont Street.

The shop owner told police that a man came into the shop at about 1:15 p.m. and stole two guns used by actors John Wayne and William Holden.

The suspect was in the store for about 25 minutes before breaking into a locked display cabinet and stealing the guns, officer said.

The guns have not been recovered.

One gun is a Winchester rifle used by Wayne in the 1962 film, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and the other is a shotgun used by Holden in the 1969 film The Wild Bunch.

Johnson has a parole violation warrant and there is probable cause to arrest him for first-degree aggravated theft, investigators said.

Johnson is described as a white man, 5'7" tall and 185 pounds.

He either is bald or has short brown hair and blue eyes.

Johnson rode away from the store riding a dark colored mountain bike, police said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case.

Anyone can call in a tip to Crime Stoppers at 503-823-HELP (4357).
