BATTLE GROUND, WA (KPTV) -
A Battle Ground woman is accused of stealing nearly $15,000 from the Parent Teacher Association she worked for.
On Tuesday, Cheryl Zwiefelhofer made her first court appearance in the case after police started the investigation in March.
She is facing more than a dozen charges of theft and forgery.
Zweifelhofer served as treasurer on the PTA for Maple Grove Primary School and Maple Grove Middle School in Battle Ground.
In her position, Zweifelhofer had access to the group's bank account from the end of last July until her resignation in March.
Association leaders claim that bills were not getting paid and when they asked Zweifelhofer to bring financial statements to their meetings, they said she always had an excuse for not having them.
According to police reports, Zweifelhofer stole thousands of dollars from local fundraising events by only depositing a portion of the proceeds and giving the rest to herself.
Zweifelhofer entered a plea of not guilty in court.
She is scheduled to go on trial in October.
