PRINEVILLE, OR (KPTV) -
A man who disappeared Tuesday in Crook County was found safe by a family member more than 20 miles from where his car had run out of gas.
60-year-old David Whitson was located near the Ochoco Reservoir around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Whitson called his family by phone Tuesday and said he had run out of gas near Ochoco Divide. He had been traveling to Albany from LaGrande.
Family members traveled to the Ochoco National Forest, but failed to locate Whitson. They reported him missing and Crook County authorities began a search operation.
Whitson was located outside the search area Wednesday afternoon. Deputies said he was dehydrated and suffering from minor injuries, but declined medical treatment.
He has been reunited with his family.
