Dave's Killer Bread upcoming sandwich showdown

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon's favorite bread-baking ex-convict has a birthday coming up!

Dave Dahl of Dave's Killer Bread started selling loaves at the Portland Farmer's Market seven years ago with just four varieties of bread.

There are now 16 varieties and Dave's Killer Bread is one of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S.

To celebrate, Dahl is hosting a "sandwich showdown" at this Saturday's Portland Farmer's Market starting at 11:30 a.m. Four local chefs will compete for the title of Killer Sandwich Champion.

As for what's next for Dave's Killer Bread, Dahl said, "On the gluten-free bread I don't want people to get too excited yet, but we are working on it. We're dedicated to producing one at some point. We're not going to mess around."
