PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Firefighters blame carelessness in putting out cigarettes for a fire at a rental complex for seniors in north Portland.
Crews were called to the Trenton Terrace Apartments at 4720 N. Trenton St. around 6:45 a.m. Friday.
Portland firefighters said they arrived within minutes and quickly put together a plan to not only put out the fire, but also to get all the seniors evacuated from their homes.
No one was hurt.
Firefighters credit the complex for running two fire drills each year.
The cause is linked to improperly discarded cigarettes.
There is no estimate yet on how much damage was done.
Investigators said cigarettes also triggered a fire at another apartment complex in north Portland on Thursday.
That fire caused $100,000 in damage.
