THE DALLES, OR (KPTV) -
Wasco County deputies planned to resume their search for a missing swimmer in The Dalles on Monday morning.
Officials said the swimmer, 19, from the Eugene area, was swimming on the Columbia River west of The Dalles Dam on Sunday afternoon.
His friends said the teen swam from the Oregon side of the Columbia to a small island near the base of the Highway 197 bridge.
Deputies said the teen got pulled downstream by strong current when he was trying to return to shore at around 5:30 p.m.
The teen was not using a life jacket or any other sort of flotation device.
Emergency crews from the Wasco County Sheriff's office and Oregon State Police used a rescue boat and a jet boat to try and locate the swimmer Sunday evening, but were unsuccessful.
