PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Norma Perrone spent her last weekend doing what she loved - riding her Harley Davidson through the Northwest, surrounded by friends.
"Fact is, I can probably name 20 or 30 people who know her who wish they had gone now," said Ed Reynolds, who accompanied her on Saturday's ride through eastern Oregon. "Cause if you don't get a chance to say goodbye, it's really rough."
Perrone was shot Sunday night, hours after she returned from another ride to Mt. St. Helens. According to investigators with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Perrone's daughter, Gina Peronne, was also shot and implicated her boyfriend, Jason Hogan Jr.
Both women were taken to OHSU. Norma Peronne died. Gina Perrone remains in the hospital. Her current condition is unavailable.
"As long as she had two wheels and we were rolling down the highway, that's all she wanted to do," said Reynolds, who said Norma Perrone learned to ride motorcycles three years ago.
She fell in the love with riding and quickly became a beloved member of the Portland Roadrunners, a local motorcycle group.
"If you were a loner and showed up and she spotted you, you'd have a friend when you left," Reynolds said.
Norma Perrone had worked for nearly 15 years at the downtown Portland law firm Davis Wright Tremain LLP, where she was a human resources coordinator.
Carole Bernick, partner in charge, said Perrone made the workplace a community.
"What she really was sort of the heart and soul of this office," Bernick said. "She was the person who organized potlucks when people had babies, or people had surgery. Or when people had a death in a family, she was the one who sort of mobilized the troops. She was the one who organized the fun, the parties, the picnics, the events. She found ways to bring people together."
Bernick said Norma Perrone volunteered at prisons, local shelters and halfway houses.
Bernick said Norma Perrone believed in second chances, giving many to Hogan, the father of her grandson.
"She kept wanting him to be the father that she wanted her grandson to have. And wanted to believe it could be him," said Bernick. "So I think it's particularly difficult because we know she tried so hard with this guy. And this is the response, this is how he paid her back."
The child of Gina Perrone and Hogan is in protective custody.
