The Camas-Washougal Fire Department said the volume of emergency calls doubled, and at times almost tripled, during the recent hot weather that began last Friday.
Fortunately, none of those emergencies were drownings or serious recreational accidents.
Firefighters said a number of emergency calls were for dehydration and other heat-related emergencies.
Looking ahead to the weekend when temperatures are expected to soar again, the department reminds everyone to stay hydrated.
Emergency workers are also asking people to watch out for their neighbors, particularly the very young and very old.
