Gun owners can turn in unwanted firearms at a gun turn-in event Saturday, August 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the North Benton Parking Lot of Portland's Rose Quarter near the Memorial Coliseum.
Participants will receive a $75 Fred Meyer gift card for turning in a working gun. There is a limit of three gift cards per person while supplies last, however, gun owners may turn in more than three guns.
Ceasefire Oregon Education Foundation President Julie Wheeler said, "People relinquish firearms for many reasons. This year, we are encouraging people to turn in their firearms as an expression of sorrow and outrage over the suicides, homicides and mass shootings like the tragedies we just witnessed in Colorado and Wisconsin."
The gun turn-in is sponsored by the Ceasefire Oregon Education Foundation, the Portland Police Bureau, the Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement and Mayor Sam Adams.
The Ceasefire Oregon Education Foundation has collected more than 7,500 weapons since 1994. All weapons collected are melted down.
Inoperable guns, BB guns and pellet guns may be exchanged for a $5 Burgerville gift card. All firearms must be unloaded and stored in the trunk of your car.
