Old friend turned in Happy Valley murder suspect after being held at gunpoint

BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

A local man said he had just gotten off the bus in Beaverton when an old friend put a gun to his back.

That old friend is Jason Hogan Jr., who was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Tuesday morning.

Hogan is accused of shooting his girlfriend Gina Perrone and killing her mother Norma Perrone in Happy Valley on Sunday.

His childhood friend, who we're calling John, turned him in.

John said he got off the bus with his wife at the Beaverton Transit Center at 8 p.m. Monday night. They planned to go cash John's paycheck, when Hogan came up behind them.

John said he had a feeling who it was, but asked for the man's name anyway.

The suspect replied, "It's Hogan."

"He said, 'I have a pistol and we're going with him,'" John said.

John said Hogan walked them over to a Fred Meyer store at gunpoint to cash the check. His wife begged to use the bathroom.

Hogan allowed it and the woman said she went inside and started crying.

"I thought about having this lady in there call the police, but he said if we said anything in Fred Meyer, he'd start shooting when the police showed up," she said.

Store employees were not able to cash John's check and they told him to come back in the morning.

John says Hogan was furious about that, so he stole John's identification.

After another bus ride back to 185th and TV Highway, Hogan took off on his own.

The woman, who we're calling Beth, ran to a relative's house and called police.

Deputies searched the area with K9 teams, but the suspect got away.

The couple would soon hear from him again, however.

They said he called this morning and wanted to meet at the Beaverton Transit Center. John said Hogan wanted to go and cash that check.

John said he agreed, and then called U.S. Marshals.

"He started walking across the bridge and as soon as he hit that bridge, he got swarmed," John said. "It was over with."

Investigators said Hogan put his hands in the air peacefully and told them he was armed with a handgun.

Hogan was booked into the Clackamas County Jail on Tuesday on aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder charges.

"I mean, what he did was absolutely flawlessly wrong without a doubt, no matter what the circumstance was," John said. "But, at the same time, I just put someone that I grew up with in prison for the rest of their life."
