Boring, Oregon on 'most unfortunate town name' list

Boring, OR, got the best of Hooker, OK, and Monkey's Eyebrow, KY, but it just couldn't top Climax, GA, on one unfortunate list.

All those places are on the list of America's most embarrassing or unfortunate town name, according to a poll by the family history website, findmypast.com.

The above towns did not finish atop the list, however.

That dubious distinction belongs to Toad Suck, AR.

The town name Boring isn't exclusive to Oregon, either. There's also a Boring, MD, that was included on the list.

The unincorporated community of Boring in Oregon was named for William H Boring, a Union veteran, who moved to the area after the Civil War, according to findmypast.com.

The Oregon community has embraced its name with a slogan that plays off of it. The town's website proclaims Boring is "the most exciting place to live."
