PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland man is expected to return home Wednesday after getting shot while helping a teen.

Marcus Jones, 61, is recovering after being shot twice in Tehachapi, California, near Bakersfield.

Jones was helping friends move to Las Vegas on Sunday when he drove past a fight.

California police said the fight escalated and a boy, 16, got stabbed.

Jones stopped his car to help the teen, but the suspect who stabbed the teen then pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting Jones twice, police said.

Jones suffered wounds to his shoulder and ear, crews took him to a local hospital.

Police said the stabbing victim is recovering and is out of a hospital.

Officers are still trying to track down the man accused of shooting Jones and stabbing the teen.
