Local HS alumni team up for good cause

OREGON CITY, OR (KPTV) -

There's a battle brewing between some local high school alumni who are trying to raise money to fight cystic fibrosis.

Alumni from Oregon City High School gathered Tuesday to practice for a full-contact football game dubbed Battle for the Bridge II.

They'll face graduates of West Linn High School in Saturday's match-up.

David Cote helped start the fundraiser two years ago in honor of 5-year-old Sophia Giammanco, who has cystic fibrosis.

Her parents went to school at West Linn.

David is also a cystic fibrosis patient and said he's fortunate to be healthy enough to play in the game.

The goal for Saturday is to raise $40,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Oregon and Katie's Kause for CF.

That would more than double the amount raised in 2011, the first year for the event.

Gates open Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Oregon City High School football field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

A $10 donation will get you into the game, while kids 5 and under can attend for free.
