Missing horses in neglect case rescued in Columbia County

RAINIER, OR (KPTV) -

Six horses that are part of an animal neglect investigation have been rescued by the Oregon Humane Society.

Investigators said the horses disappeared from their property in Rainier on Monday.

Authorities were taking steps to remove the animals, when it was discovered they were gone.

Due to their physical conditions, combined with the hot temperatures outside, investigators feared their lives may have been in danger

They were found in Columbia County near Goble, about six miles away from Rainier.

They are severely underweight, according to the Humane Society, but they are now getting the food and medical care they need.

Their owner, Yvionne Byrd-Lynch, has still not been located.

She was cited in May for animal neglect after a horse was found dead on her property.

Sound Equine Options, a nonprofit organization that assists neglected and abandoned horses, is helping provide care for the rescued horses.

Once the legal case is settled, the Humane Society hopes to find new owners to adopt the horses.
