RAINIER, OR (KPTV) -
The U.S. Coast Guard has identified the man who fell from a sternwheeler on the Columbia River.
The search was called off Tuesday for Andre Staples of Birmingham, AL.
He fell overboard at 1 a.m. Tuesday while the Queen of the West was docked in Rainier. He was a cook on the ship.
The investigation is continuing into what caused him to fall.
Witnesses said they saw Staples surface once before they lost sight of him.
He is presumed to have drowned.
