SANDY, OR (KPTV) -
A new feature on Portland area roads creates an optical illusion to trick drivers into slowing down.
ODOT painted "optical speed bars" along Highway 211 in Sandy near Dubarko Road.
The lines are spaced out in a way that fools drivers into thinking they're going faster than they actually are.
The trees on the way to the terminal at Portland International Airport are planted in a way that gives the same effect.
ODOT said it's just trying the idea out for now but could end up putting the project into place around the state.
