At-risk youth hustle for Trimet work program

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Trimet hired local at-risk youth to help create a win-win situation for both them and our community.

Twenty kids are involved in the annual First Step program this year.

It's 10 straight weeks of cleaning up bus stops and sidewalks.

Coordinators said the program teaches kids about hard work, respect and responsibility.

The kids get a free transit pass and earn minimum wage for up to 40 hours of work each week.
