PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A man walking along the Eastbank Esplanade with his head in a book said a man punched him in the face.
Police said it happened at 2:30 p.m. Friday near the Burnside Bridge.
Police said Joseph Nelson, 31, of Portland was reading as he walked through the area.
Nelson told investigators a man approached him and asked if he was looking at him. He said he didn't respond, and that's when the suspect punched him in the face several times.
Nelson borrowed a passer-by's phone to call 911.
Officers located the suspect, Jon Romine, 31. Police said he's a transient.
He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on the charge of assault.
Nelson did not require medical attention.
