PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Portland Timbers' new goalkeeper took to the pitch Friday and got right down to business running drills with his new teammates. The Timbers acquired Donovan Ricketts on Tuesday in a trade with Montreal that sent Troy Perkins packing.
Interim Coach and GM Gavin Wilkinson described Ricketts as one of the top-performing goalkeepers in the league.
Ricketts is a two-time MLS All-star, who played with the LA Galaxy from 2009-2011 before heading to Montreal. He helped the Galaxy get to the 2009 MLS Cup Finals his first year with the team, which they eventually lost to Real Salt Lake. He was named goalkeeper of the year in 2010.
The Timbers take on Toronto FC on Wednesday, Aug. 15.
