PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A Portland fire and rescue captain got quite the surprise as he spotted a man stealing his personal car outside a fire station.
It happened at about 10:45 a.m. on Sunday at the parking lot of Fire Station 11 on Southeast 92nd.
Police said Michael James Spillers Jr., 31, stole Capt. Jesse Scroggins' personal car.
As Spillers reportedly drove off, Scroggins and other firefighters jumped into a fire truck and followed Spillers a short distance.
Police said Spillers ended up crashing the car into the front porch of a home on the 9900 block of Southeast Duke Street.
Spillers ran off but the firefighters jumped out of the fire truck and chased him down, catching him near the Springwater Trail, according to authorities.
Spillers was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, failure to perform the duties of a driver and criminal mischief in the second degree.
