PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Traffic in the South Waterfront area will be impacted this week by the delivery of 16 massive girders as construction of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail continues.

This is the second of three sets of deliveries for the 1,730 foot long Harbor Structure. The 40-plus ton girders being delivered are fabricated in Tigard by Fought & Company and individually transported to Southwest Moody Avenue.

During delivery, Exit 1A off of Interstate 5 north bound  Exit 299B will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning today and continuing through Friday, Aug. 17 to allow for the preparation, delivery and placement of the 16 girders.

The eastern shoulder of Harbor Drive and the southern portion of the turn lane at River Parkway will also be closed for crane storage for the entire week.

The detour will direct drivers to use Exit 299A and then follow the City Center sign to Southwest 12th Avenue, Southwest Market Street and onto Naito Parkway.

The last set of girders is expected to be delivered to South Waterfront area in October and will require more extensive traffic closures.
