Coast Guard rescues man who fell from horse

Posted: Updated:

A Coast Guard crew out of Astoria rescued a man who fell off a horse and suffered serious injuries.

The rescue happened Sunday just south of Pacific City.

The man was in an isolated part of Bob Straub State Park, near the entrance to Nestucca Bay. The man was considered too badly hurt to be moved by foot.

The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter lowered a rescue swimmer to help the man.  The swimmer prepared the man to be hoisted up into the chopper.

Once lifted, a Tillamook County paramedic onboard was able to administer an IV.  The crew flew the injured man to the Tillamook County Hospital.

His exact condition is unknown, but the Coast Guard says the man did  suffer injuries to both his neck and spine.
