GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A team from Gresham is heading to the Little League World Series, and some of the players' parents need a little help to go see their children play.

The All-Star National team from Gresham won the Northwest Regional Championship on Saturday, defeating a team from Idaho 8-4.

The win secured the squad from Gresham a spot for the first time in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. They'll play the Great Lakes champions of New Castle, IN,  in their first game.

According to the Gresham Little League website, the team is trying to raise $25,000 to help pay for the trip.

They held a fundraiser dinner Monday night at Boccelli's Ristorante in Gresham. All proceeds went toward the Little League World Series expenses.

A second fundraiser will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Local Cow in downtown Gresham. A $10 purchase will get customers a "ballpark special," which includes a burger or hot dog, plus fries and a soda. The restaurant will donate half of every one of those specials sold to the Gresham Nationals. Coaches and parents will also be busing tables for tips.

Mayor Shane Bemis has encouraged local businesses to show their support by posting messages on reader boards and in windows to cheer on the team.

You can also make a donation at the Gresham Little League website.
