A sex offender was arrested on a forest service road near Prineville and charged with domestic assault and kidnapping.
Prineville police were called out at 7 p.m. Sunday after witnesses said a woman was crying for help from a passing car.
Police said it happened near Northwest 10th and Main Street and the woman was yelling that she had been assaulted.
The car was described as an older Volkswagen Jetta driving at a high rate of speed.
Officers arrived, but did not find the car.
About 10 minutes later, U.S. Forest Service officers spotted the car on Forest Service Road 23 near the forest boundary.
Officers stopped the car and found a man and woman inside.
Crook County deputies then arrested Anthony Atkinson, 26, of Prineville. Investigators said he assaulted the woman in Prineville and then drove out into the forest.
Atkinson is charged with domestic assault, menacing, reckless driving and a parole violation. He also faces a charge related to his sex offender registration, according to deputies.
