'Bon Appétit' magazine gives high praise to Portland restaurant

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A culinary magazine believes one of the best new restaurants in the country is in Portland.

Bon Appétit picked Luce at 2138 and 2140 E. Burnside St. for its prestigious list.

In fact, the Portland restaurant came in fourth on The Hot 10, America's Best New Restaurants, from a list that originally started with 50 nominees.

Two other Portland restaurants, Ox and Woodsman Tavern, were among those 50 finalists.

Writer Andrew Knowlton said of Luce, "dish after rustic dish transported me to a restaurant in Siena, Italy, where I was a college kid and first understood what real Italian food was all about."

Luce, pronounced "LOO-chay," got high marks for its spaghettini with garlic and hot peppers, braised chicken with capers, grilled hanger steak in rosemary and garlic oils and baked stuffed trout.

Luce is online at luceevents.blogspot.com.

The Bon Appétit article is on the magazine's website and includes recipes from the local restaurant.
