Community gathers to remember Corbett man

CORBETT, OR (KPTV) -

The community of Corbett gathered Tuesday to remember the life of a local man, who battled a deadly disease with incredible grace and dignity.

Woody Davis lost his battle with ALS last week at age 69.

As Davis fought ALS, he asked his friends to leave their own message to him on his custom made coffin.

Woody's son, Clint, decided to hold the memorial at Good Shepherd Church in Boring because he said it's the only church in the area that was big enough to hold all of Woody's friends and family.

"Woody's hope for you is that you would not wait until tomorrow," said David Davis, Woody's brother. "He was given time to prepare but we don't all get that."

There were tears and laughter as people continued to share their memories.

Following the service, there was a procession to Corbett Church and Mount View Cemetery.

FOX 12 sat down with Woody Davis back in June. His son said his father's simple but giving life affected many in the small town.

"I remember when it would snow hard, he'd get out in his International pickup and drive around and look for people that were stuck," said Clint Davis. "It made him feel good to pull people out of the snow."
