PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A volunteer for the Portland Rose Festival has been named Volunteer of the Year by the International Festivals and Events Association.
Charlie Clint has been volunteering at the Rose Festival for more than 30 years. She's the first Rose Festival volunteer to win the Volunteer of the Year award.
Five years ago, she became the festival's unpaid webmaster and IT manager after a staff reduction. She also volunteered in events like the Danner Memorial Day March and the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade. In addition, she designs and edits the festival's eNewsletter.
Sue Bunday, the Rose Festival's president, said Clint "exemplifies the heart of this festival."
Rose Festival organizers estimate Clint has saved the festival tens of thousands of dollars and commits 30 to 50 hours a week to the festival. She was given a "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Rose Festival in 2008.
