PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Four million baby seats are being recalled in the U.S. due to the threat of serious injuries and even skull fractures.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Bumbo International, announced the recall Wednesday.
It is a voluntary recall because investigators said babies can fall out of the seats. If they're on a raised surface at the time, it can pose serious health risks.
In October 2007, 1 million Bumbo baby seats were voluntarily recalled, as well.
Since that time, there have been at least 50 incidents involving babies falling from a Bumbo seat while it was on a raised surface, according to the CPSC.
Of those, 19 included reports of skull fractures.
Investigators said they know of an additional 34 post-recall reports of infants who fell or maneuvered out of a Bumbo seat while it was on the floor or at an unknown elevation.
They all resulted in injuries, ranging from bumps and bruises to skull fractures.
The recalled seats were sold at Sears, Target, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, USA Babies, Walmart and various other stores between August 2003 and August 2012.
