PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Portland Police Bureau and Crime Stoppers of Oregon are seeking the public's help identifying a hardware store fraud suspect.
On July 28, investigators said a man walked into Chown Hardware at 333 NW 16th Ave. in Portland. He picked out several faucets and sets of door hardware, and told store workers the order was for RKK Construction in Mercer Island, WA.
He used the name "Michael Potter," and said the items were to be billed to the RKK Construction account. He then left the store with the items.
RKK Construction later returned the bill to Chown Hardware, saying they had no "Michael Potter" that worked for them and that nobody was authorized to purchase those items on their account.
The total value of the items was $3,500.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with a shaved head or short brown hair and a goatee.
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
If you recognize the suspect, call Crime Stoppers at 503-823-HELP (4357), text CRIMES (274637) and put 823HELP in the subject line, followed by your tip, or visit the Crime Stoppers website. You can remain anonymous.
