ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -
Police have released a mug shot of the man accused of shooting a Benton County deputy and a Salem police officer.
Demecio Cardenas Jr., 32, of Los Angeles is still being treated at a local hospital. His condition is not available.
Police said he had a warrant out for his arrest in Los Angeles. His mug shot is from the California Department of Corrections is from August 2010.
Investigators said an Albany woman called 911 on Aug. 11 to report the man in her backyard.
Police said he took off in a car that may have been stolen.
When authorities spotted him, it led to a chase. Cardenas lost control at Independence Highway and Northwest Springhill Drive and investigators said he bailed out of the car.
As a search team started scouring the area for him, police said Cardenas emerged from the brush and shots were fired.
During the exchange of gunfire, Benton County Sgt. David Peterson and Salem police Cpl. Andrew Connolly were wounded.
Cardenas suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Both officers survived.
