ST. HELENS, OR (KPTV) -
A St. Helens sports booster is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from her local club.
Investigators said Maria Santangelo, 41, of St. Helens, was a member of the St. Helens Sports Booster Club and volunteered as the concessions manager.
After the club's bank account was overdrawn, investigators started looking into the case.
St. Helens police said $6,000 was taken from a concessions fund.
Santangelo was arrested on Thursday.
Police said there was a trail of financial records that exposed the fraud scheme.
The club is a fundraising organization that works to support and improve athletic programs in the St. Helens School District.
Santangelo was taken to the Columbia County Jail with bail set at $15,000.
