Vancouver man killed in boating accident

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A Vancouver man was killed in a boating accident at the Swift Reservoir on the upper Lewis River.

The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said Grant Kelly, 49, was thrown from his boat after a sharp turn Wednesday.

He had spent the day fishing with his brother, who was also thrown out of the boat.

They were returning to the boat ramp when it happened, about 18 miles east of Cougar, WA.

CRP efforts at the Swift Forest Camp boat reservoir failed to revive Kelly.

His brother survived.

Investigators said they were not using life preservers.

They said water temperatures, especially at higher elevations, are still low enough that the onset of hypothermia can happen in as little as 10 minutes.

Deputies are continuing to investigate.
