Fundraiser for injured cyclist

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A local cyclist is in the hospital after being hit by a car in Cornelius, and family and friends are rallying to get her the medical treatment she needs.

You may remember Marilyn Hayward from a segment we aired a few weeks ago about her business, Coventry Cycle Works, Portland's only recumbent bike shop. She was hit by a car in Cornelius August 6 while on a solo ride, and spent four days in intensive care with a severe brain injury.

Her nephew, Matt Ford, said the crash essentially wiped the slate clean and she's starting over from scratch. He told us inpatient rehab is the best chance for a successful recovery from her injuries, but her insurance won't cover the rising cost of her medical treatment.

Her family is trying to raise the $23,000 needed for inpatient rehab, and they've set up a Wells Fargo account in Marilyn Hayward's name. If you'd like to help, you can make a donation at any branch, or you can follow this link to make a PayPal donation online.
