TUMALO, OR (KPTV) -
Caretakers say a chimpanzee is doing extremely well at her new home in an Oregon sanctuary.
CJ is one of a pair of chimps that escaped a Las Vegas, NV, home in July and terrorized drivers.
Police were forced to shoot and kill the other chimpanzee.
CJ escaped again a week later causing her owners to lose custody.
She was transferred to a sanctuary near Bend on Friday.
The founder of the sanctuary, Lesley Day, described introducing CJ to her new home.
"It was totally amazing," Day said. "We got her up, backed her up to a door and she just went into the cage and up, up the ladder and down into the tunnels. All the other chips were so excited to see her, and you would think, you would never know that she's been in this small, little cage for over a week."
The North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance says CJ is the perfect example of why chimpanzees should not be bred and sold as pets.
