Clackamas firefighters presented a local teen and his mother with an award for saving the life of an elderly man who had collapsed in his front yard.
Gabe Shallouf, 19, and his mother, Dana Pascoe, received the Community Life Saver Award from Clackamas Fire District No. 1 at a ceremony Monday evening at Mt. Scott Station 5.
On July 30, Shallouf and his mother were driving on Oatfield Road in Milwaukie when they noticed the man lying on the ground. James Alexander, 76, was not breathing and had no pulse, so Pascoe called 911 while Shallouf began to perform CPR.
Clackamas fire crews arrived and brought Alexander back to life using advanced life support measures.
Alexander had reportedly been mowing the lawn alone before his medical emergency. No one else was home at the time.
