OREGON CITY, OR (KPTV) -
An Oregon City teen was struck by a car and left unconscious in the road by the driver who hit her, according to police.
The girl was crossing Brighton Avenue from Barclay just after 3:30 Monday afternoon with two friends when she was hit by an SUV, police said.
"Last thing I knew I was going to the park," said Kalei Campbell, the teen hit. "I don't remember anything after that."
However, a number of witnesses saw the crash and provided details to police.
"The car struck her; she flipped and flew in the air and fell," said Joyce Gulley, Campbell's mother. "She had a seizure and went unconscious."
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle involved as a gold or tan SUV and said the driver and passengers briefly stopped before taking off.
"They stopped, got out of the car, were cussing at each other, got back in the car and drove away," Gulley described.
Meanwhile, the teen was rushed to OHSU where she stayed overnight. She was released Tuesday morning, and she's now recovering at home, covered in scratches, stitches and bruises.
"It's hard to believe," said Campbell of the crash.
She and her mother are just thankful her injuries aren't worse.
"I could have lost her yesterday," said Gulley through tears. "For that person just to drive away."
"Thinking about her not being here, I don't know what I would do without her," Gulley said.
She's hopeful Oregon City police can find the driver responsible.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a gold or tan Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler, or similar SUV with a partial license plate number 769F, police said.
The driver of the SUV is described as a white man, about 40 years old. He had an unshaven face and wore a baseball cap, police said. His passenger is described as an older teenage girl with long, black hair.
