OREGON CITY, OR (KPTV) -

A hit-and-run driver in Oregon City has ditched the SUV believed to have been used in the crime at an apartment complex in the area.

Oregon City police said the hit-and-run happened at about 3:30 p.m. Monday at Brighton Avenue and Barclay Avenue.

Kalei Campbell was crossing Brighton with two friends when an SUV drove into her, according to police.

The teen was rushed to the hospital and stayed there overnight. She was released Tuesday morning and is now recovering at home.

Her mother said the girl flipped in the air after the crash, had a seizure and went unconscious.

The suspect vehicle was described as a gold or tan SUV.

Oregon City police confirmed Wednesday that the SUV was abandoned at about 9 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex on Pearl Street.

Chris Tysinger spotted the SUV at his apartment complex on Wednesday morning and called police after he noticed the vehicle didn't have any plates on it.

"At that point, the man was wiping down the steering wheel and I found that extremely wrong so I ran to the house to get my phone and called 911," said Tysinger.

Tysinger said he knew the SUV matched the one wanted in the hit-and-run case.

"The front bumper directly in the middle was dented. A little bit of the grill was broken and the blinker light was broken. It also looked like there might have been a little bit of blood on the hood of the vehicle," said Tysinger.

After calling police, Tysinger said he saw the man get picked up by another SUV, white in color, driven by a woman.

Police said the hit-and-run suspect is as a white man, about 40 years old. He had an unshaven face and wore a baseball cap.

He had a passenger who is described as an older teenage girl with long, black hair.

If you have any information about the crash, call the Oregon City police non-emergency dispatch number at 503-655-8211 or the Oregon City police anonymous tip line at 503-496-1616.
