GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A Fred Meyer employee is accused of trying to get cell phone video or pictures of a woman and her daughter in the Gresham store's changing room.

Carl Rainey, 24, was arraigned in court on the misdemeanor charge of invasion of privacy. His trial is set for Sept. 27.

Gresham police said a 28-year-old woman had accompanied her 8-year-old daughter into the changing room on Monday. She noticed a hand holding the phone over the door and screamed.

The person ran off and Fred Meyer staff was notified about the incident. Police said Rainey admitted to his boss what he had done.

The manager informed officers shortly after they arrived at the store. Rainey was arrested.

Police said a check of Rainey's cell phone revealed he was not successful in getting any video of the victims.

A Fred Meyer representative said the incident is "atrocious and unacceptable."

Rainey has been fired from his job and a Fred Meyer representative said the company is cooperating fully with police and the victims in this case to help them move forward.

Rainey has worked for the company for six years. A spokeswoman said they had no previous problems with Rainey.

He has no criminal record in Oregon.

FOX 12 attempted to contact Rainey at his Gresham home. He was unavailable and did not respond to our request for comment.
