Dagger discovered at PDX
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland TSA agents caught a man trying to get on an Alaska Airlines flight last Friday with a hidden dagger, according to a TSA spokesman.
Agents spotted the dagger during the man's body scan at the security checkpoint inside PDX. When they searched his pocket, they found a small plastic comb with the knife hidden inside.
The TSA agents confiscated the dagger and the man was cited by Portland police officers for having a concealed weapon before he was allowed to continue on his journey to Seattle.
It's a problem TSA agents report seeing across the country - people attempting to bring bags with bullets, grenades, knives or guns through security and onto planes.
In fact, agents have confiscated 821 handguns so far this year, according to the TSA. That breaks down to four a week, which is the double the rate of last year.
A spokesman couldn't explain the reason for the increase.
