LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -
A former part-time deputy in the Cowlitz County Coroner's office faces charges of using a dead man's debit card to steal nearly $12,000 from his estate.
Jeffrey Wayne Hart, of Castle Rock, faces charges of theft, ID theft and misconduct.
Court documents show that as a deputy, Hart went to the Longview, WA, apartment of Larry Williams Sr. on June 6 to investigate his death.
On July 16, Williams' daughter, Bobbi Schraeder of Wichita, KS, called Longview police to report that her father's debit card was used in Longview and Kelso to make nearly $12,000 in ATM withdrawals and purchases.
Longview police say store surveillance video showed Hart using the stolen debit card.
Hart's neighbor, Dorothy Rider told Fox 12 news, "Well, I think it's kind of unbelievable. But he ought to be strung up somewhere."
Cowlitz County fired Hart after his arrest.
They say he is not in jail right now and is expected to make his first court appearance on Aug. 29.
