MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -
A charcoal grill filled with tree branches instead of briquettes caught a house on fire in Milwaukie.
Firefighters responded to the scene on Southeast 31st Avenue near Roswell Street at 2 p.m. Friday.
Investigators said a man lit the branches on fire in the grill and went back inside his house. When he returned to the grill, it had caught the home on fire.
Firefighters said the man did not call 911 right away. Instead, they said he climbed a ladder onto his roof with a garden hose to try and put out the fire.
When that didn't work, he called 911.
Firefighters said the attic was destroyed and the home suffered smoke and water damage.
Nobody was hurt.
