ASHLAND, OR (KPTV/AP) -
Oregon State Police have seized 55 pounds of heroin in a traffic stop on Interstate 5 north of Ashland.
Troopers arrested a 65-year-old Hillsboro man who was driving a Cadillac SRX sport-utility vehicle on Thursday. Raul Mendoza was originally pulled over for a traffic violation, police said.
Authorities say the drugs are worth an estimated $1.1 million on the street. Police say they were sealed in 15 packages concealed in the vehicle.
Police used a drug detection K-9 during the traffic stop.
Mendoza was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful possession and distribution of heroin.
