PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Neighbors tackled a teen and held him on the ground after a woman said he tried to abduct her 6-year-old daughter in southeast Portland.

Joel Miranda, 17, was taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Hall on the charges of kidnapping and aggravated harassment.

It all started at 6:30 p.m. Sunday on the 16900 block of Southeast Lafayette Street.

A woman said she heard a muffled scream coming from the area where her kids were playing.

She went outside and said the 17-year-old suspect had his arm around her daughter's neck and his hand on her mouth.

The woman said he was trying to pull the girl into the bushes.

She ran after him and hit him with a stick to make him let go, according to police. The situation got the attention of neighbors, who followed the suspect when he tried to run away.

The mother and the neighbors chased down the teen on foot and in a car and tackled him at Southeast 164th and Clinton Street.

They held him down until officers arrived and took him into custody.
