PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A new construction project in Portland could mean being problems for your commute.
The Portland Water Bureau has started work on a new section of supply of pipeline on SW 10th Avenue near Chestnut Street.
The Carolina Mains Project will take about 10 months to complete.
For the first four months, the work will involve making pipe connections to the three existing Burlingame water storage tanks at 6932 SW 10th Ave.
Pipe then will be installed down 10th Avenue, turn onto SW Chestnut Street and end at the intersection SW Burlingame Avenue.
The project will accomplish several important water system goals that include installing upgraded seismic piping to the tank and increasing the pipe diameter to 24 inches to meet future demand.
The project will require the contractor and Water Bureau field crews to alternate their work, therefore the street will be excavated and repaved several times.
Noise, dust and use of heavy equipment and vehicles will be in the area.
Motorists and bicyclists are encouraged to avoid the section during work hours, which are between 7 in the morning and 6 at night Monday through Friday.
