CAMAS, WA (KPTV) -
A Camas-Washougal firefighter helped save a man's life while on vacation at Disneyland.
The Camas-Washougal Fire Department said Ben Porter, a firefighter and EMT, was returning to the Disneyland Hotel on Saturday afternoon when he noticed a potential emergency.
He said a man who appeared to be convulsing was being lowered to the ground by a police officer and another person.
Porter ran to the man's aid and quickly realized he was not breathing and had no pulse.
Porter began CPR while the police officer called for assistance.
A Disneyland nurse then arrived with an automatic defibrillator. Another off-duty paramedic also stopped to assist.
Porter operated the defibrillator while the paramedic continued CPR.
After one shock from the device, the patient had a pulse.
An ambulance took the man to the hospital and he had a complete recovery and was released 24 hours later.
The Camas-Washougal Fire Department released a statement saying Porter's actions were beyond the call of duty and are a reflection of the outstanding service he provides to the local community.
