PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Three sculptures in Portland's public art collection will be restored using funds from a $5,000 Cultural Development Grant.
The Regional Arts & Culture Council received the grant from the Oregon Cultural Trust.
A statement released Tuesday by the RACC said the money will go towards the restoration of three historic monuments: George Washington at NE Sandy and NE Alameda, Sacajawea and Jean-Baptiste at Washington Park and the Portlandia statue in downtown Portland.
Portlandia will receive a complete condition assessment and an inspection of its internal steel frame and mounts to assess the accumulation of droppings and other grime because of bird infestation.
The other two statues will receive various treatments, including the removal of built-up oxidation, hot wax treatment to control future oxidation and the cleaning of their bases and pedestals.
The $5,000 grant will only cover a portion of the cost of the project. The total cost is expected to be $12,337.
The RACC expects work to be completed by April of 2013.
